Eloise Calandre is a British contemporary artist working across photography, drawing, writing, and performance. Her work explores connections between body, place, and encounter.
She combines digital space and mixed reality with analogue methods and materials. Drawing upon photography’s mechanics as conceptual tools and its visual tropes within popular culture, her work evokes spaces on the threshold between reality and imagination. Her poetry and narratives address themes of sexuality and motherhood through notions of time, movement, and metamorphosis, and manifest through visual text and spoken word.
Her practice incorporates scholarly research, borrowing from quantum mechanics, philosophy, psychology, intersectional feminisms and critical theory. She has exhibited her work in the UK and internationally, often taking site-responsive approaches to making as well as working collaboratively on a range of projects.
She studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at the University of Leeds, MA Photography at Royal College of Art, London and MA Video Games at Goldsmiths, London. She has lectured at the National Portrait Gallery London, UCA Epsom, UCLA London and is currently Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Brighton.
